Raymond Bernard的Les Croix de bois看得出来受到苏维埃蒙太奇学派的一定影响，有点小吃惊的是，作为一部1932年的影片，它既没有带上过多的默片手法，也避免了有声片初期的一些通病，是一部相对成熟的有声电影。

James Mangold的新版Yuma我看是过誉。现在这部片子被吹得天花乱坠，但以我看来，也只是一部中上之作，和Daves的1957版相比，也就是在角色的心理深度上有所强化——这是60年代以后好莱坞电影的一个趋势，算不得特别。顺便一提，Mangold有两个导师，都是很牛逼的，Alexander Mackendrick和Milos Forman。

比如最重要的旅馆房间那场戏，当前好莱坞那种快速剪接+特写的方式张力大失，远不如Daves的深焦镜头有滋味。

然后开John Carpenter评论音轨重看了Howard Hawks的Rio Bravo，这才是有史以来最经典的西部片（top 5），旧好莱坞的集大成，不过当时它也有“新西部片”的名头。然后又顺便看了之前Hawks因其失败而远走欧洲四年的Land of the Pharaohs，50年代的CinemaScope史诗，可以看出很多东西，好莱坞在那个时代是如何进行调整的。今天一般人说到那时候的宽银幕史诗片，也就是记得David Lean的几部，和《埃及艳后》、《宾虚》之类的，之外大量的同类片子并没得到太多关注。
